When Shooting Tannerite Backfires, Right Into Your Face
Zo Choppa is a "Guntuber" who reviews all things firearms, and blows stuff up every now and then. But after playing with some Tannerite, he almost became "The guy who blew himself up," as his Twitter bio reads.
Tannerite is a "binary reactive target used as a shot indicator to improve your rifle shooting accuracy." Essentially it blows up when you shoot it. According to a police sheriff, "one package of Tannerite creates an explosion equal to that from a little less than one stick of dynamite." It's also unregulated, and not sold as an 'explosive' because it takes firearm level forces to ignite it.
Zo Choppa found out the hard way just how powerful Tannerite can be, after a piece of shrapnel from an explosion struck him next to his right eye. "Thank god I’m alive," he wrote. "I could’ve lost an eye or severed my neck, God is good. Be safe and don’t play with Tannerite!"
